ISLAND MINT

What’s Island Mint?

Simultaneously tropical and woody, Island Mint is a product everyone needs this summer! Refreshing and invigorating, the Summertime Blend includes Lime, Lemon, Peppermint, and Black Spruce essential oils.

Why Island Mint?

Lemon, Lime, Peppermint, and Black Spruce essential oils provide ample concentrations of limonene and menthol. These chemical constituents give Island Mint its fabulous properties and benefits.

How Do I Use Island Mint?

Aromatically: Island Mint is distinctly fresh and crisp. Bring it on road trips or make a DIY air freshener to keep your car smelling exquisite. You can also add a few drops to the base of your shower in the morning to promote feelings of clear airways and easy breathing thanks to the menthol in Peppermint.

Never underestimate the power of diffusion. As simple as it may seem, diffusion is one of the best ways to use essential oils and blends, always delivering powerful benefits. At your next party or gathering, diffuse Island Mint to transform the space into a sunny paradise.

Topically: For a luxurious personal scent, add a few drops of Island Mint to your dōTERRA® spa Hand & Body Lotion or Replenishing Body Butter. You can also apply it to your wrists or neck.

When Should I Use Island Mint?

When the kitchen smells funny, your dog leaves a weird stench in the breezeway, or your car seems stuffy, turn to Island Mint! Start up the diffuser and let the Lemon, Lime, Peppermint, and Black Spruce work their combined magic.

Lemon and Lime—two classic citrus oils—are great for refreshing the air. Plus, everyone loves the smell of citrus. Black Spruce is equally fresh, bringing out a grounding depth to the Summertime Blend.

Where Does Island Mint® Come From?

LEMON

Lemons can grow to the size of softballs when they thrive in warm climates and fertile soil. Most of the fruit sourced for Lemon essential oil is from the island of Sicily.

The essential oil is in the fruit peel, which is extracted by rasping the peel, similar to zesting a lemon. The rasping equipment is submerged in water—just enough to cover the blades. As it scratches the peel, the essential oil is released into the water and then separated in a centrifuge, where it’s processed at least twice.

LIME

Southern Brazil has the perfect climate for citrus growing and consequently producing high-quality citrus oils. Similar to Lemon, Lime essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of fresh limes.

BLACK SPRUCE

Black Spruce essential oil is sourced in southeastern Canada, where it grows abundantly. Black spruce trees are quick to replenish itself after harvesting. The harvesters will cut down the trees, and by the time they return the forest is completely regrown.

The lumber industry harvests the trees, taking their trunks and leaving behind the branches and needles. After that, our supplier has a permit to go in and pick up the leftover materials. The needles are then distilled for their essential oil.

PEPERMINT

The US Pacific Northwest is an ideal climate for growing peppermint because of the high and consistent amounts of rainfall each year. This rainfall contributes to a high menthol content in peppermint plants, giving them their minty aroma and flavor. Northern states in India have climates similarly suited for optimal mint cultivation.

The essential oil comes from the aerial parts of the plant—or everything above the ground

CITRUS BLOOM

What’s Citrus Bloom?

Citrus Bloom welcomes summer into your home with its combination of bright citruses and fragrant florals. This essential oil blend includes Wild Orange, Grapefruit, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Magnolia.

Why Citrus Bloom?

Wild Orange is renowned for its sweet, bright, and lively aroma. Like the other citrus oils, it’s also cleansing.

Grapefruit is known for its sparkling scent. It’s frequently used in skincare because of its purifying properties.

The aroma of Lavender is unmistakable and beloved. It’s incredibly soothing to the skin.

Roman Chamomile and Magnolia are commonly found in perfumes. Both Roman Chamomile and Magnolia have aromas that produce calming environments.

The citrus oils in Citrus Bloom add a fresh, energetic nature to the essential oil blend, while the floral oils are softer, gentler, and calmer. Together, the effect is magical. Citrus Bloom creates an atmosphere that’s simultaneously tranquil and cheerful.

How Do I Use Citrus Bloom?

Aromatically: Citrus Bloom Springtime Blend offers the fresh scents of both citrus and floral oils, carefully chosen to bring the familiar feeling and fragrance of summer. Diffuse it around your home or stop and take a few deep breaths of it from your palms—or the bottle—to appreciate the sweet aroma.

Topically: Citrus Bloom is a gorgeous fragrance when worn topically. You can apply it to your neck and wrists as a personal perfume or add it to lotion for an evening massage that smells as sweet as it is soothing.

When Should I Use Citrus Bloom?

Start your morning with an optimistic beginning. Diffuse Citrus Bloom during your morning routine or take a few deep breaths of the aroma. You might also diffuse it in the kitchen as children wake to boost their spirits before playtime or summer camp.

After an evening bath, combine Citrus Bloom with lotion and apply it for a luxuriously sweet and settling scent. You can also use it as part of a relaxing hand or foot massage before bed.

Where Does Citrus Bloom Come From?

WILD ORANGE

Greece and southern Brazil have the perfect climates for citrus growing and consequently producing high-quality citrus oils. Citrus oils like Wild Orange are typically produced alongside a juicing operation, where the essential oils are expressed from the rinds and the juice is pressed from the whole fruit.

GRAPEFRUIT

The US is the world leader in grapefruit production, producing over 1.5 million tons of grapefruit every year. South Africa is another leading country.

The essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel, like many other citrus oils. Fresh grapefruit that can’t be sold on the fresh market because of bruising or aesthetic deficiencies are pressed for juice and essential oil. The juice and essential oil are separated, providing a dual use for the leftover fruit.

LAVENDER

Bulgaria is an agricultural haven for growing aromatic plants, and the people are rich in expertise. Near the Black Sea, the sunny and dry climate—coupled with the well-drained, sandy soil—make the growing conditions ideal.

France is famous for producing exceptionally high-quality lavender. Some historians estimate lavender production there dates back as far as 600 BC.

Though its color is most brilliant in the early summer, we harvest our lavender plants in July. Once its bright purple color has started fading from exposure to the summer heat, the plant produces higher quantity and quality essential oil.

ROMAN CHAMOMILE

Roman chamomile can be difficult to cultivate because of its sensitivity to weather fluctuations. The high and regular amount of rainfall per year in the Pacific Northwest and some parts of England—along with a relatively consistent climate—make these areas great for growing Roman chamomile.

The essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowers, which must be harvested shortly after blooming.

MAGNOLIA

The magnolia tree has species scattered throughout South Asia, the Pacific, and North America. However, we source our essential oil from magnolia trees in southern China because of their especially fragrant, beautiful aroma.

The essential oil comes from the magnolia flower. Flowers are handpicked from the tree then spread out to dry for a few hours before distilling. Magnolia flowers can be harvested twice a year: in the summer and in the late fall or early winter.

DIY Essential Oil Shower Melts?

There’s nothing quite like a refreshing shower to start the day—except perhaps a warm, relaxing shower at the end of a long one! These Citrus Bloom shower melts will transform your shower into a full spa experience.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cornstarch

  • 2 tablespoons distilled water

  • 5–7 drops Citrus Bloom

Instructions:

  1. Add the Citrus Bloom and corn starch to a bowl. Mix well. (It’ll look like crumbly powder.)

  1. Pour in the two tablespoons of distilled water. Continue to mix until clumps begin to form.

  1. Once you have a thick paste, transfer the mixture to your mini ice cube tray. Smooth out flat.

  1. Freeze the contents for an hour or until the mixture is set.

Note: You don’t need to leave the shower melts frozen. Once they’re set, you can place them in a jar and store them in a cool, dry place. However, if your cubes seem runny, you can store them in the freezer instead and try a little less water the next time you make them.

  1. When you want to use a shower melt, place it on the floor of the shower and turn on the water. As the water stream hits the cube, it’ll begin dissolving, and the aroma of Citrus Bloom will fill the air.
