Frankincense essential oil is a proprietary blend of resins from four tree species: Boswellia carterii, B. papyrifera, B. frereana, and B. sacra. dōTERRA blends multiple frankincense trees because different trees thrive in different environments and soil types.

MYRRH

Myrrh is native to Somaliland, where it has been harvested for generations. Myrrh essential oil comes from steam-distilling the tree’s resin. The tree has rugged, angled, and thorny branches with few leaves. The sap hardens and dries into a glossy, amber- colored resin, which darkens over time.

HAWAIIAN SANDALWOOD
There are many sandalwood tree species. Santalum paniculatum is the sandalwood tree native to Hawaii, which is sustainably sourced from the Big Island (Hawaii).

France is famous for producing exceptionally high-quality lavender. Some historians estimate lavender production there dates back as far as 600 BC.

ROSE

Roses have been grown and picked in Bulgaria for over 200 years. With such a long history of growing roses primarily for essential oil, Bulgaria has become one of the largest producers in the world.

Rosa damascena (the Damask rose) is the species of rose grown and distilled for our Rose essential oil. The rose cuttings are planted in the autumn and ready to be picked in May or June. Roses prefer sandy, clay-free soil with a sunny, slightly humid climate and mild winters.

HELICHRYSUM

Helichrysum thrives in the Mediterranean climate of Albania and Corsica. The helichrysum plant is a small perennial herb and a member of the daisy family. It prefers rocky, well-drained soil and the Mediterranean air. The essential oil is primarily sourced from the plant’s flower.
